Hong Kong is a small country but it has a well-planned urban living architecture and transportation system. Their modernized transportation system and a well organized traffic makes Hong Kong tourist friendly for first time travelers and visitors like me.

Hong Kong has 5 public transportation available, the tram, bus, mini-bus, taxi and train or their MTR.
1. Tram / double decker tram
Is a bus like transportation that is powered by electricity. It’s good for short distance travel. A good way and it’s also the cheapest way for sight seeing around the city. Locals have advised us to just hop on the tram and seat there and just enjoy sight-seeing from end to end of the route.
2. BUS/ Double decker bus
You will also see big busses roaming around. It has different routes and bus stops in each every bus stop stations around. It’s also one of the affordable ways to move from one destination to the other in Hong Kong. Double decker aircon buses for long travels within the city. Buses that goes up to highlands are not double decker bus. This buses can carry 48 or more passengers.
3. Mini-bus
This are actually shuttles or vans that carries 16 passengers around Hong Kong. It is more of like Jeepneys here in the Philippines but more organized and systematic.
4. Taxi
For a more private transpo you can take the taxi anytime you wish, as long as you are going to the same direction of the traffic flow. I don’t know how to explain it in English, lol but what I mean is, unlike in PH where you can just say okay we are going North and even if the car is facing south it’ll just U turn somewhere possible and you can go to your destination quickly. In Hong Kong, the traffic goes one way most of the time. And if your going south and the traffic is going north you have to go a long turn before you’ll reach your destination. It’s more of like, a suppose to be 10 minute walk but since you ride a taxi you spent 20 minutes before reaching the destination. Some sort of like that. lol (ang hirap ha!)
And it is because of this kind of traffic in Hong Kong, a lot of people would prefer to walk, like seriously walk in order to reach the destination faster.
5. MTR – Metro Transit Railways
These are bullet trains that gives you a faster way of transporting from one destination to the other . It is the most efficient and time saving transportation in Hong Kong. It can get you to places faster than a bus. Riding MTR for example takes only 30 minutes going to the AIRPORT than riding a bus going to the AIRPORT which takes approximately an hour or more.

It’s Day 4. If you noticed, we have a very relaxed itinerary. We try not to squeeze everything in one day. Jam have Hong Kong Central Library in her must visit list, and since I don’t have an itinerary prepared I went out with her and check out the library and more.

HONG KONG CENTRAL LIBRARY (FREE)
Just the thought of visiting a library gives me a dose. I am not a book lover and if I open books I have a different taste or probably genre, lol I usually grab some tech books or design books. Anyway moving forward, we visited Hong Kong Central Library. And low and behold, a 12 storey building is in front of me. Each floor caters to different age and WIFI everywhere. I honestly don’t how to describe how I felt. I got too excited and chose to move from one floor to the other.
And here I am once again, thought of how I wish we have one back in PH.
How we get there? From mini-hotel, we walked our way to Hennessy Road to Hong Kong Central Library.
VICTORIA PARK (FREE)
Located just across Hong Kong Central Library.
SIGHT-SEEING WITH TRAM (FEE: 2.30 HKD)
Simply ride the tram, seat comfortable at the second deck and enjoy the scenery while you’re travelling from end to end. Just the thought of experiencing the tram ride is fun. And it was so fun that I forgot to take a photo of me riding it.
THE PEAK TRAM (FEE: 98.00 HKD with Sky Terrace)

The venerable Peak Tram is, as most passengers agree, the only way to truly experience the beauty of Hong Kong’s natural wonders. Tens of millions of people from every corner of the globe have taken the ride, which affords a uniquely spectacular perspective of the city.

Located also at the Garden Road Peak Tram Lower Terminus is The Peak Tram Historical Gallery. Open in September, 2007, The Peak Tram Historical Gallery is like a time tunnel with more than 200 memorabilia exhibited. Divided into 15 theme sections, it will take you back to Hong Kong in the 19th and 21st century. The first day of commercial operation on May 30th, 1888, attracted 600 passengers. [Source: The Peak]

Getting there:

From Mini-hotel we ride the mini-bus #26 going to the Hong Kong Park. Walk in the park and look for the Peak Tram Garden. Wait time when you are doing a DIY is usually longer most specially during holidays, but if you purchased BIG BUS tickets, you can go directly to the tram stations without having to wait that long.

VICTORIA PEAK

Grab this interactive audio book to know the history and stories behind each buildings and destinations you can see from the Peak.

It’s so cold up here. And my eyes are showing weakness already. I was having a bad headache and my feet are sore that day. I went home really sick and with fever. But you know it’s just me and my birthday. It has been a ritual that I wish and I hope I can get over with in my next future birthday trips.

Smiling with this beautiful ladies up at The Peak. You can actually stay overnight here if you wish. There are a lot of food places and actually they also have a mall up there. So much for that day. Let’s do this again girls.

This is Day 3 of our Hong Kong Trip, and we went to the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping Village. We are suppose to be exploring Macau, but due to lack of research, we missed that it’s a holiday in Hong Kong and majority of the locals are heading to Macau for a short vacation. We arrived at the Port at around 10 in the morning, and a huge number of locals greeted us. We haven;t booked any tickets prior to arriving Hong Kong, when we checked we could no longer get a ticket enough for a day trip in Macau. So we decided to just skip it and visit the Big Buddha instead.

Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong.[Wikepdia]

How to get there?  (From Mini-Hotel)

  • Hop on a train at Causeway Bay Station and stop at the Central Station
  • Walk your way towards the Hong Kong station and ride the Yellow Line Train going to Tung Chung Station.
  • At the Tung Chung Station walk towards the bus stations going to Ngong Ping or if you prefer to ride a cable car you can go to the cable car stations.
  • Make sure to fall in line at the right bus line.
  • The bus stops at the Ngong Ping Village where the Big Buddha is.
  • Fare: 24.00 HKD During Holidays. You pay less during regular days in HK.

Ngong Ping Village is where the commercial and tourist services are located. It is where the bus stops. If you need to reload your Octopus Cards, just look for the 7-11 store to reload the card. If you are to ride the cable car going back to the hotel, you walk pass the village where the cable car stations are.
Walk few meters and you will see the beautiful Big Buddha. And yes, you need to walk up that long stairs for you to appreciate the beauty of the place more. But if you think you can’t do it, do not for yourself.

You can choose to visit the monasteries at the village too if you think climbing up the buddha is too much for you.

A lot of Buddhist and tourist are coming here. Buddhist come here to pray while tourist climb up for an experience. What I really appreciate about Hong Kong people is that, they really do go out and explore their country most specially during Holidays.

The weather here is cold most specially in the afternoon. We even experienced fogging during our stay. It’s really cold, so if you easily get cold like me, make sure you have your jackets/sweater with you to warm you up.

Be mindful of the schedules of the last bus from Ngong Ping and last train at Tung Chung station.
Expenses:
Entrance FEE: FREE
Bus fare: 24 HKD (during Holidays) one way
Thank you Tita Myrna for touring us around and for the free lunch, snacks and dinner. Can you tour me around again? hehehe.. Thank you ulit.

One of the reasons why people would love to go to Hong Kong, other than shopping is visiting Hong Kong Disney Land. Disney Land they say is the happiest place on earth. I mean a lot of people will contradict to that but seriously it’s a happy place to be in. In Disney Land, you can be a kid again.

Being one of those who are not born wealthy to visit other countries and most specially amusement parks like Disney Land is a dream destination. Not everyone is privilege and lucky enough to visit such park and live to be a kid again.
It’s one of those destinations where you simply forget your problems or work for a day and just simply smile and be happy. I admit, I can not remember whether there was a time during the visit that I frowned even with migraine attacks.
So here’s a glimpse of how we get there and every little details in between.
Where to buy park tickets?

We made few researches online about online tour packages. But was too afraid on getting scammed. Good thing our hotel, Mini-hotel, offers services for tour packages in Hong Kong. So we bought our tickets the next day after we arrived the hotel at their concierge. They were very accommodating and taught us how to get there too using MTR. Each Ticket purchase comes with freebies. We got the regular day pass tickets.
If you have kids and you want them to have close encounters with the stars you should get the Photo Pass tickets too.
How to get there? (From Mini-hotel)
MTR SYSTEM MAP
Well if you’re concerned with tagging along your luggage somewhere, don’t worry it’s a thing in Hong Kong 🙂
  • Walk towards Causeway Bay station (Blue line).
  • Ride the train going to Central Station and stop at Central Station or Hong Kong interchange.
  • Walk your way towards the Hong Kong station and ride the train going to Tung Chung (orange line).
  • Stop at Sunny Bay Station and transfer to the Disney Land Resort Train.
  • Enjoy the Disney themed ride.
  • Just follow the same getting home to the hotel.
Disney Train going to the Disney Land Resort

THE TOUR

TIP: Never miss the Lion King Show. It’s a must see.

From here, you can choose to follow the show schedules if you are not that adventurous, but the kids will surely want to try the rides. Your tickets will allow you to ride all you can but if you want to take photos with the disney stars you should get the Photo Pass too.

But if you don’t need it really, you can just roam around and do some sightseeing just like what we did.

And when you get tired of roaming around, there are a lot of food stalls in the area and shopping centers too.

Tip: When you are about to order a food or buy something… Just don’t convert it to peso hehe

We visited the Charter House Causeway Bay Hotel during our trip to Hong Kong. This hotel is one of the options we were looking into when we were looking for a suitable accommodation in Hong Kong. The Charter House Causeway Bay Hotel is a 4-star Hotel conveniently located at Wanchai Road Causeway Bay. It is a classic hotel with comprehensive facilities, comfortable environment, and vibrant lifestyle. It is a favorite choice of stay whether you are traveling for business or a vacation.

They have stylish rooms and depending on your mood and budget they have four restaurants available.

Le Petit Salon

If you are in the mood for coffee, Le Petit Salon serves the best coffee in town paired with the designer cakes and pastries by a famous Chef.

Champs Bar

Champs Bar is a baseball champion themed bar that houses the best beer you can find. It has that western feel with TVs on the tune at baseball games. It has buffet finger foods that are best paired with beer.
They do have private rooms for private functions or birthday celebration, or if you just find it crowded, secret rooms are available for the guests for more intimate or more private conversations.

Harry’s Bar

Harry’s Bar is more of wine or cocktail bar. A tone down version of Champs Bar if you are more into feel good music and a more quiet crowd.

The Gazebo

The Gazebo is an Intercontinental Buffet Restaurant where you can choose from the variety of dishes available. These are also where we had our Intercontinental Lunch. The dessert table is already heaven for me. Moreover, since I have been eating much western food in my life, I indulge in Asian dishes and desserts there. The food is delicious like seriously delicious. How I wish, I can stay there longer. lol
I apologize If I kept mentioning food here. Let’s have a quick tour of the other amenities of The Charter House Causeway Bay Hotel.

The GYM;

The guest can enjoy and maintain the healthy lifestyle at the gym. It is a fully equipped with exercise machines, a shower and vending machine for their needs.

The Lounge

Guests of this hotel can stay in the lounge and do business like they usually do online. They have computers available for use, a sofa for business chats and other extra tables for your laptops.

THE ROOMS

There are various room accommodations available at The Charter House Causeway Bay Hotel. We checked out the newly renovated Family rooms and the designer Room at the S Signature Floor. I tell you each room are designed perfectly to fit your lifestyle.

The Family Rooms cater families of 4 with two queen sized beds, hot and cold shower, own toilet and bath, LCD TV, in room safe, telephone,  fully air-conditioned and comes with welcome drinks for 4 and one mobile phone with Unlimited Mobile data connection and FREE local and international call and text features. It makes it very convenient to stay, and the fully equipped mobile connection helps with easy navigation around Hong Kong and its tourist destinations. I sure would book one in my future trips with my family.

The S Signature rooms are indeed luxuriously designed for every business needs. It is equipped with almost the same features with the Family room, except that it has one queen size bed, in-room sofa and office tables, bigger area and sophisticated toilet and bathroom. And of course, such beauty comes with a price. But if you are all for the comforts of life, this is the accommodation best for you. I surely would want to stay here in one of my future visits to Hong Kong.

Dragon Center Mall is one of the must visit Malls in Sham Shui Po Kowloon, Hong Kong. Pinay Travelista couldn’t stop herself from getting excited when she knew we are visiting Dragon Center Mall. Her eyes goes teary eyed by the thought of Dragon Center. Her excitement gives me that giddy fee, ling too. I don’t know what to expect at the mall but I’m looking forward for that visit, I prepared physically, emotionally and of course financially. haha
So the day comes for the visit, the moment we are out from the Sham Shui Po station I thought I was walking in memory lane. A good number of surplus stalls selling second hand items were in a flock. We walked pass that street and lo and behold the Dragon Center.

Upon entering the mall, I can’t help but look up and be amazed with such huge mall. I noticed a somewhat like of a roller coaster ride decoration at the top. I was told that there was a functional roller coaster ride at the top floor and a skating rink too. The ride is no longer available for use today. Its track remained as a huge decoration at the top.

The 5th floor of this mall houses the foodcourt and Apple Mall. Apple Mall is somewhat like that of SOLO specialty store it’s just that it’s in the mall. It’s more on products instead of offices in SOLO. The main goal of Apple Mall is helping local and start up businessmen own and operate their own stores and business inside the mall. We all know that mall rental spaces are quiet expensive for start ups. Apple Mall makes it possible by creating stalls or shops inside the mall that is about 4sqm in size where they can do business.

Washi tapes, Journals and Planners! They have such cute pieces! There’s this one store I found at Apple Mall, they are selling miniture pieces. Miniture furnitures, dinning tables, sala sets and more. This is just one of the products that I explored every corners of Apple Mall. And I have to admit, I splurged on items and bought quite a lot. I found unique and affordable items and bought a few to bring home to the Philippines.

How to get there?

This is the convenient way from Causeway Bay Station (Blue line), ride MTR going to Sham Shui Po Station (Orange line). Dragon Center Mall is just walking distance from the Sham Shui Po Station Hong Kong.

SOLO Specialty stores

When we arrived in our hotel in Hong Kong we noticed this cute spaces with very unique stuff in store for sale. They are like those äbubot shops in the Philippines. They are like stall shops that houses local businessmen with elegant, unique and local products. SOLO is a very nice concept by ETON Properties which encourages local Hong Kongnese to put up and start a business. SOLO buildings encourages creativity and entrepreneurship.

Each unit is approximately at 3-4 sqm floor area with 1.2sqm x 2.5sqm dimension. Which is quiet enough for a start up business owner to really perform and do business. We visited 2 specialty shops during our stay other than the ones we saw near the Mini Hotel in Causeway Bay.
The first shop we visited was Echoes on Earth. It’s a lifestyle and Trade Fair Store. They sell everything organic. They also sell locally produced products of Hong Kong. She markets her products online through social media. For some customers who wish to see the products first before buying it, she invites them to visit her shop at SOLO. SOLO is located at the prime locations of Hong Kong making it convenient and ideal for businessmen.
Address: Room 519, Solo Radio City, 505 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, HK

You can check out more of her products at FB: Echoes on Earth. Make sure to like her page to get some updates.
The second shop we visited was owned by a Graphic and Web designer. She advocates helping Hong Kongnese start up owners sell more through her website. Producers contact her to help them sell their products online. She makes sure that products are of good quality, unique, handmade and locally made by a Hong Kongnese. She also help them introduce their products to the market by helping them join tradefairs and bazaars in Hong Kong. She gathers all the products in her store helping the producers make it out there.

I find her concept really humbling with help as a motivation to make the business successful.

There are also gadget stores, nail art shops, RTWs and the likes in SOLO. Each floor caters to different industries.
WHY SOLO?

Rental spaces for businesses in Hong Kong is quiet pricey due to limited LOT spaces in Hong Kong. Majority of the pictures you see about Hong Kong is composed of tall buildings because of that fact. Lot area is sold at extremely high value if compared to us here in the Philippines because majority of the portions are reclaimed. SOLO provides affordable rental spaces to start up businessmen.

I’m looking forward to seeing this concept as well in the Philippines so as a lot of locals will be encouraged to start their businesses and most specially cater the local produce we are all proud of.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A SPACE IN SOLO?

Visit: http://www.solohk.com/
Info: All areas in Solo are fully furnished with stylish design. Users can enjoy a private and individual unit without paying high rental cost. A single fee includes the room, furniture, internet connection, electricity, 24 hours security service and management fee. Solo offers a wide range of size for users to choose from. Simply choose a size you need and start up your business within hours!

Mini Hotel Causeway Bay is located at 8 Sun Wui Road, Causeway bay Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is located nearest to almost everything. The hotel is just few blocks away from the famous brands and Time Square. The biggest apple store in Hong Kong is just walking distance from the hotel. Definitely a smart choice for travelers.

Blogger friends and I bought tickets to Hong Kong way back March 2016. We were confident that we’d be able to make plans thoroughly, save up big time and work harder while waiting for the planned trip. We scheduled it just in time for my birthday. I never had luxurious birthday parties since the world begun. And I always enjoy simple birthday celebrations with the family and some friends. This time I took it up to a higher level and celebrating it with my two awesome bloggers friends, the “Pinay Travelista” and “Travel Jams”. But as the trip was approaching, other than savings, we haven’t had concrete plans on where to go and even where to stay. Good thing I have these awesome girls who are OC and prepared enough to plan everything for me without even asking them hehe. One of the most important things to prepare of course is the accommodation. Choosing where to stay was a bit of a struggle, because;
  1. We are not familiar of Hong Kong
  2. We don’t know how far the hotel is to the attractions we wanted to see; and
  3. The rates are overwhelming
Good thing we found Mini Hotel Causeway Bay.

Mini Hotel Causeway Bay was built in 2012 and guests can choose from 208 rooms. Amazingly they have high occupancy rate as it is in a Prime location of Hong Kong Island.

This is where Jam and I stayed in our 5 days in Hong Kong. It has a smart and clever interior. I just love the all white rooms and pristine white beds and bed sheets, which is really needed to make the room look bigger and cozy.
The rooms are pretty surrounded by mirrors and the clever comfort room and bathroom in full glass. Well, I find it surprising, as I am a Filipina who haven’t been to any room like this, and although I’m a bit of a liberated, Jam is more disturb than me (hahaha). But kidding aside, the interior design was well thought of considering its size and limited space, having a close or walled bathroom will make the room look suffocating, that’s why the glass bathroom is designed as that.
But this is super romantic for couples. I mean.. you know what I mean.
QUAD ROOM (Good for 4 pax)

  • Vending Machine available (Tip: If you forgot to bring with you a universal adapter, you can buy it in their vending machine)

Pros:
  • Very nice interiors
  • Accommodating and helpful staff
  • Daily Housekeeping service (even if you didn’t ask for it, which is pretty amazing if I’d compare it to the services in the hotels/inns in the Philippines; they have honest staff too)
  • The artistic feel and industrial feel of the interiors are so nice.
  • The hotel is located near Time Square, Lee Gardens, Edge Gallery, and Happy Valley Racecourse.
  • If you don’t have an itinerary for the day, you can lounge at the lobby where you can find a lot of interesting activities.
  • Near the mini-bus stations (Tip: Mini-bus #26 which goes to the Peak Tram Station is just right outside Mini Hotel)
  • Near the MTR Station (Causeway Bay Station)
  • Near shopping malls and shopping destinations.
  • Very near restaurants and fast food stores.

Cons:

  • It’s located in a shopping haven for all luxurious and famous brands. (Sorry if I placed it as cons, wow temptation island for shopping addicts like me haha)
  • and I guess that’s all
There are a lot of travelers I see checked in every day as it is the most decent, I should say, and affordable hotel around Causeway Bay. Book your accommodation at Mini-Hotel and you will know why I would love to go back and stay again in Causeway Bay.
