Nacpan Beach in El Nido Palawan is one of the must-visit sites in El Nido. I don’t know what else to say. lol

According to my research (from other blogs), Nacpan Beach is a 4km stretch of powdery sand beach. The beach is still in its virgin beauty. Although resorts are starting to sprout in the area. I just hope it will not be abused like what other touristy beaches in the Philippines right now. Everything seems to be perfect in Nacpan Beach. Despite its distance and difficulty of access roads, people flock and visit Nacpan Beach. It is already touristy, but I am still hoping for its virginity be reserved.

When we arrived we already saw a portion of the shore with umbrellas and seats for sunbathing for rent. I prefer those shouldn’t be that near to the beach. Small stalls or sheds where already visible and it caters the public for some freshly cooked seafood and other refreshments.

We had lunch at Kyla’s Cucina, it’s one of the bigger cottages you see on the beach. A lot of bloggers also have blogged about them. And the food is undeniably delicious. The seafood is fresh, not to mention their mussels were huge! haha, it’s my first time to see such size on the table. The group feasted on the food and consumed it in no time.

We arrived at around 11 in the morning. The sun is up and it’s extremely hot that day. Since its already crowdy after lunch, we chose to walk far from the crowd. We found this cute modern cabins that are actually good for overnight stays.

We walked some more and found this peaceful place. We stopped for some Buko Juice and waited for the sun to set.

When swimming at the beach, don’t get too far from the shore. There is a strong current and sometimes the waves get too strong for a non-swimmer to handle. Make sure you swim with a buddy or let people from the resort know that you are swimming so they can watch over you.

Nacpan Beach is 45 minutes away from the El Nido Port. We rented out a van to bring us all to Nacpan. We are 10 pax so it’s just economical for us to rent out a van instead of using tricycle or habal-habal (motorcycle).

Kyla’s Cucina Feast:

Expenses:

  • Van Rental – 3,000 divided by 10 = 300.00 each
  • Environmental Fee = 50.00 each
  • Lunch = 450.00 each
  • Buko Juice = 50.00 each
Things to bring:
  • Personal belongings and clothes
  • swimming attire
  • snorkel or goggles
  • hat
  • sunglasses
  • sunblock/sunscreen
  • after-sun cooling gel
  • waterproof cameras
Remember: Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Take your trash with you. Respect and take care of nature for the future generations. Be a responsible traveler.

Singapore is one of the most expensive destinations in Asia. If you ask Filipinos living in Singapore, they’d probably tell you to prepare a good amount if you are visiting Singapore. The cost of living in Singapore is high compared to other Asian Countries. If you have at least 15,000 pesos for a 3-day trip, you will surely survive Singapore. I created a separate post for the itinerary and budget you may check it out here.

Here are few tips on how to tour around Singapore on a budget;

1. If you’re staying Singapore for 3 days better get the Tourist pass EZLink card (unlimited rides for 3 days) for easy transport from one place to the other. Cost: SGD 20.00

2. Book an accommodation in a hostel with shared bathroom. Hostel beds with shared bathroom can be rented out for at least SGD 18.00 per day. Prices are higher during weekends and on holidays. For a good deal, you can book your accommodation ahead of time. Book here

Why hostel? Because you will be touring anyways! Unless you plan to have a staycation in Singapore then you choose a fancy hotel instead. 🙂 Message me for bookings.
3. Buy attraction tickets ahead online. Online travel stores like KLOOK, for example, has great deals for discounted tickets for Singapore attractions that can help you save more and keep you stay on a budget.
4. Have your USD or PHP changed to SGD (Singapore dollar) at MUSTAFA! They give the highest exchange rate in Singapore. The Travelex Money Exchange found at the CHANGI AIRPORT is almost equal to that in MUSTAFA or sometimes slightly lower. Don’t exchange your Peso to SGD in the Philippines, most especially at the PH airports. You can change your Peso to USD instead.

5. Purchase a Tourist SIM CARD. There are a lot in Singapore you can choose between SINGTEL and M mobile. You can buy it from SGD15 to SGD30 that is valid from 3 to 10 days.
  • SINGTEL gives 4GB free internet, unlimited local calls, few minutes international calls for 3 days.
  • M mobile offers 100GB free internet, unlimited local calls, few minutes international calls for 5 days. 4G SIM Card (SG Airport Pick Up) for Singapore
You can buy this at a great discount ahead of time and pick it up the moment you arrive at the Singapore airport.

6. Shop for gifts or pasalubongs at Chinatown for Singapore memorabilia’s like key chains, ref magnets and/or bags. You can get key chains at 42 pcs for SGD 10, 7 shoulder bags at SGD 10.00 or ref magnets at SGD1.0 each. For other branded items you may go to IM at Jurong East or Bugis Junction Mall.

7. For cheap quality buys of branded products, check out CHANGI CITY MALL just at the Singapore Expo.

8. For your meals, eat authentic Singaporean meals at hawker stores. You can get a complete set at SGD 3.00 to SGD 5.00. If you’re eating at Makansutra or in restaurants, each dish display has 2 to 3 indicated prices, the lowest one is for a single serving.
For example; $4/$7/$12

  • SGD 4.0 = small serving (single serving)
  • SGD 7.0 = medium serving can feed 2-3 people
  • SGD 12.00 = large serving which can feed 3-5 people
9. If you are a tourist and you’re buying items that total to at least SGD 100.00 in a single receipt, you are entitled to tax (GST) refund which you can claim at the airport after passing the Immigration counter or the store can give you an outright discount, just show your passport.
10. There are a lot of free tourist destinations in Singapore that you can take advantage of prioritizing visiting them if you are on a tight budget. You can pick 1 themed attraction if you prefer to indulge a little. Most of the time, that’s Universal Studios Singapore. But if it’s okay for you to leave that out the Universal Studio globe is free, and other beautiful scenes in Sentosa are free of entrance fee too.

8 FREE SITES you can take advantage while in Singapore:

1. Sentosa Resorts World and Universal Studios globe
2. Gardens by the Bay
3. Marina Bay Sands view
4. Esplanade at the Marina Bay
5. Merlion statue at the Marina Bay
6. The City Hall
7. Chinatown Walking Tour
8. Little India Walking Tour

I hope this article helps your future trip to Singapore. If you liked this blog post, please give this a thumbs up and share it with your friends and family who might need this budget tips to Singapore. Comment down below if you have questions or suggestions too.
Can you suggest other destinations in Singapore that are free of charge too? Comment down below, and I’ll try to visit them on my next Singapore trip.

From Singapore, we exited to Kuala Lumpur. It was an evening flight so we arrived Kuala Lumpur quite late in the evening. It was a bit hard to get a cab that time. Good thing we have GRAB app handy.
We are an avid user of TNVS most especially while traveling. Since all of us are first-time visitors of Kuala Lumpur, we rely on maps and blogs to guide us thru. The funny thing is we were looking for a car for 6 pax but was surprised that the cars in KL are actually small. It can’t accommodate additional luggage for the 6 people. The grab driver told us to book another regular GRAB CAR since the car for 6 no longer have room for the luggage. So we did.
From the airport to our AIRBNB HOME, it took us 45 minutes by car. We pick up the keys as instructed and walaaaaaah welcome to our 3 days and 2 nights home.
1 bedroom 69sqm condominium at Swiss Garden
condominium for 6 persons

If you don’t have an AIRBNB account yet, sign up using this link here and get 1,100 discount in your first booking.
The condo is at Swiss Garden Residences. It’s a 1 bedroom unit with 69sqm floor area. It can accommodate up to 6 people with a beautiful view of the KL Tower and Petronas Twin Towers.

We were literally exhausted with our Singapore itinerary so when we arrived in KL we really had a staycation. We chose to stay in bed and went out around 10 in the morning!

We checked out Berjaya Town Square since it’s one of the biggest malls in Asia. After Berjaya, we opted to visit the famous KL Tower. We booked our tickets via KLOOK.

    Klook.com

We have to limit our activities this time since Dad is no longer feeling well.

Check out our itinerary and activities in KL, watch the video below;

Universal Studios is one of the themed parks in Singapore that receives a lot of visitors in the country. If you are a fan of movies, you are pretty familiar with Universal Studios for sure. When I visited Universal Studios last year (Feb 2016), We started at around 8 am in the morning and went home at 7 PM. This year we were quite late and arrived Universal Studios at around 10 AM. The sun was already too hot. He he

TICKETS

Last year we bought tickets online directly from their website promos [Link here]. We were lucky to have purchased it at only 54 SGD each with a free tumbler.

In my recent trip, we got our discounted tickets at our hostel. Their hostels in Singapore offer discounted rates in all the touristy destinations of Singapore. We got it at 69 SGD  compared to the regular 75 SGD when purchased at the park.

RIDES

If you are a thrill-seeker experience the rides, but be mindful of the wait time and reminders posted outside each ride. Wait times could usually run between 5-120 minutes or more. Most especially for the most thrilling once.
If you are a real adventurous and as long as you don’t have severe heart/health conditions Transformers and The Mummy is a must try. But if, roller coaster ride is your thing, try Galactic and Human.

SHOWS

If you’re not fun of rides, no worries. Universal Studios is both kid and senior friendly destination. Make sure to pick a schedule and a map at the entrance so you can see what the schedules of the shows that you can watch during your stay are.

* Don’t miss out the aqua show at the WATER WORLD.

CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE CHARACTERS

You can also line up and meet the characters in different areas of the park. Fall in line to have your photos taken for a souvenir. Check the schedules for you to know who’s around at that time.

* Don’t miss out BUMBLEBEE

SHOPS

You can buy some memorabilia from the store of each attraction available. You can purchase a shirt, ref magnets or key chains. If you’re fun of buying tumblers like me (hehe) grab one, it also comes with FREE Drink if you purchase a mug.

Food stalls are available everywhere, quench your thirst or fill your tummy they have it. Like literally everywhere.
There’s so much activity happening all at once at Universal Studios Singapore, you might not even notice it’s already 7:00 PM. The sun usually sets at 8 in the evening.
*Photos used in this post are a mix of Feb 2016 and May 2017 visit to Universal Studios Singapore

Iligan City is known for its waterfalling adventure trips and a lot of trekking destinations. It is because mountains surround Iligan City and 92% of the total land area is mountains. Thus the tourist destinations mostly revolve around getting wet and trekking.

We all know not all travelers are fit to do such adventure thrill activities, most especially to our elders and young once. So I gathered these touristy destinations that are senior-friendly and child-friendly. Those places they can visit and enjoy for sight seeing without having to trek for long hours.

TIMOGA SWIMMING POOLS (swim)

Timoga swimming pools have been a favorite. It’s fresh spring cold waters satisfy the heat. It’s a public pool where you rent a spacious cottage or table for a few hours. Some of them are open for night swimming but are not open for overnight stays. They don’t offer meals inside so you can buy outside from the long stretch of seaside restaurants and food stalls.

Reminder: Iliganons are living with our Muslim brothers and sisters who are pretty conservative, wearing two piece bikinis is something new and will make you stand out. People will surely be staring at you. So if you don’t want such attention, please wear beach shorts or cyclings and swimming tank tops or rash guards or swimsuits instead. But if you would insist, at least we warned you. The locals would usually wear t-shirts and shorts 😛

Tip: Try Dacer or Glorias Lechon (roasted pig)

Entrance fee: 100 pesos (as of October 2016)
Table Rental: starts at 100 pesos (fits 4-6 persons)

MAZE PARK & RESORT (swim)

Located at Upper Buru-un. A few minutes away from Tinago Falls. They have three swimming pools of different depth. They also have an Olympic pool for the real swimmers. They do have open cottages for rent for day use and overnight rentals.

Maze Park have dormitory rooms and hotel rooms/cottages for rent if you wish to stay overnight and sleep comfortably in bed. Dorm rooms are at 200 per head for at least ten persons in a room. Their private rooms start at 500 per night.

They also do not serve meals, unless you are in their high-end hotel. However, it would be economical for you if you buy from the city before heading to Maze Park. Please don’t expect a hotel resort kind of service.

Entrance Fee: 25 pesos day use. They collect a higher for night swimming, or overnight stays not booked in their hotel/cottages.

Swimming attire: same with Timoga swimming pools

NPC NATURE PARK; MARIA CRISTINA FALLS (sight-seeing)

NPC Nature Park weekend on the property of National Power Corporation where the Maria Cristina Falls is. They have a mini aviary for your kids to enjoy and some reptiles and other members of Kingdom Animalia that you will surely enjoy watching with your children.

You can then visit Maria Cristina viewing deck and viewing park where you can have lunch facing the majestic Maria Cristina Falls. You may bring your food or order some sandwiches or burgers from their canteen.

They have memorabilia for sale on the site too.

If you are quite adventurous, you can also try their TREE-TOP Zipline and zip from tree to tree and across the river.

Zipline Fee: 200* (price may change without prior notice).

Entrance Fee: 35 pesos per person*

ILIGAN PARADISE RESORT; MIMBALOT FALLS  (sight-seeing/swimming)

Iligan Paradise Resort offers overnight stays, fun water and adventure activities and a good view of Mimbalot Falls. They have open cottages for day use too.

They have also added some human-made lagoon and other attractions to keep their guests entertained with nature.

Entrance Fee: 35.00 pesos per person
Overnight Rooms for big groups: 6,000

PASEO DE SANTIAGO (sight-seeing)

Paseo de Santiago gained its popularity because of the huge iconic ILIGAN CITY sign along the shores of Brgy Santiago. Privately owned by Atty. Leo Zaragoza and family, it has been a must visit destination in Iligan City since then. They have developed well the property adding PHILIPPINES in the picture, a great design for outdoor parties and hangout place for friends and family.

Open cottages are free to use. They have a barbecue and other “pica-pica” food and drinks available. They also have concessionaires for other food and drinks. Some bands play on stage every weekend.

Entrance fee: 10.00 per person; if with live band presentations usually Friday-Sunday 20.00 pesos each.

ILIGAN CITY HALL & BUHANGINAN HILLS (sight-seeing)

Iligan City Hall and Buhanginan Hills is the best place to be for a good overlooking view of the city most especially at night. At day time during office hours, it’s a busy place where almost all the government functions and offices are. {December Photos}

Entrance Fee: FREE

THE STRIP (Food place)

The strip is a food haven for all food lovers. It is where the new food places are in Iligan City. Quezon Avenue Palao Iligan City has become the food district and party place for the new millennials and old folks alike. It’s a one-stop destination for everything you’ve been craving. From appetizers to desserts, from coffee or hard drinks, a chill-out place to hardcore partying.

Families and groups have been visiting the strip hunting for some good food.

CENTENNIAL PARK (sight-seeing)

Just a few meters from the boundary of Lugait, Misamis Oriental, and Iligan City is Brgy Dalipuga. Centennial Park houses the tallest flag pole in Iligan City and the biggest Philippine flag so far in the city. Built in commemoration of the Centennial celebration of the Philippine national flag. Centennial Park developed along the shores of Iligan Bay, which gives you the best view of the beautiful sunset at Iligan Bay.

Families, group of friends and lovers love this place because of the romantic scene and a big loan for dry picnics. Bring a blanket or a mat to sat on and your packed dinner and other food and beverages to complete the setup. Make sure to clean and bring your trash after. There are also stores across the park that now sells food and drinks.

    MACAPAGAL ANCESTRAL HOUSE (sight-seeing)

Diosdado Macapagal Ancestral House is the house of two former presidents of the Philippines; Pres. Diosdado Macapagal and Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The house was maintained and renovated by the Macapagal Family. The original house is till there, with Pres GMA’s childhood playhouse and swing still intact.

When you enter the house you will see a lot of memorabilia which also tells you a bit of history on how the lady president lived as a teenager. A prominent picture of her was displayed at the house that you surely cannot miss.

They also accept bookings for the parties and events in the new buildings they constructed in the open area of the property. They also have constructed a lodge that accommodates groups staying overnight or few days in Iligan City. The Macapagal Ancestral House is already co-managed by the Iligan City Tourism Office.

    Entrance Fee: FREE

    KOI CREEK (sight-seeing)

Photos by Douglas A. Garcia [Explore Iligan]

Baslayan Creek used to be a dirty and smelly canal until a group of good citizens cleaned the creek and converted it to a koi pond. The plan was ambitious, but everyone was surprised to see a rehabilitated canal turned into a beautiful sight seeing destination. Located in front  Gaisano Mall.

Update: Clean and Green Baslayan in Purok de Oro, Zone 3, Poblacion. The once polluted creek is now a beautiful pond for Koi to thrive. An exemplary example of a community in action. | Photos by Douglas A. Garcia [Explore Iligan]

4 days and 3 nights Staycation at Injap Tower Hotel

Injap Tower Hotel is the tallest and first hi-rise building in Western Visayas, 21-storey Injap Tower Hotel by Hotel 101, promises a whole new perspective of staying in Iloilo city and experiencing life’s goodness first hand. Located right at the SM City Iloilo – Mandurriao. I need to highlight that though because there are two SM stores in the City. Injap Tower Hotel is located along the Diversion Road, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, 5000 Iloilo.

    Getting there:

If you are coming from the Iloilo Airport, ride a UV express at the airport to SM CITY Mandurriao (where their terminal is), the fare is only 50.00 pesos per person (Airport – SM); 70.00 pesos per person (SM-Airport). If you have big pieces of luggage with you or you are in a group you can also take the airport taxis and vans available at the airport terminal for a fee that ranges from 500.00 pesos and up. INJAP Tower Hotel is known to people because it’s new and its Grand.

And because I loved my stay at Injap Tower Hotel I’ll share you my secret. CLICK the link below to get a good deal of a room at Injap. Experience Luxury at an affordable price.

    Hotel Facilities:

    GYM:

For health buff, stay fit and healthy by engaging in an energizing workout using Injap Tower Hotel’s gym facilities, located on the 5th Floor. Guests can use gym facilities from 06:00 AM to 08:00 PM daily.

    POOL:

Beat the heat, and wash your tired body away.  Have a refreshed morning or fall into a deep sleep of tranquility after a reinvigorating night swim. Guests can enjoy a dip anytime from 06:00 AM to 08:00 PM daily at Injap Tower Hotel’s pool at the 5th floor.

This is one of the reasons why we checked in and stayed here for 4 days. Haha, I don’t know, I just love the thought of being able to swim in every travel lately. I prefer swimming workout rather than going to the gym. That’s also why I keep swimsuits handy during trips.

    SPA:

This one suits the body. After a dull day going around the tourist destinations in Iloilo City, having a relaxing massage is a heaven on earth. Located on the 5th floor too just right beside the pool.

    HORIZON CAFE:

Talking about extensive breakfast buffet, this is the deal. Located on the highest floor of Injap Tower Hotel. At the 21st floor of the building, you’ll enjoy breakfast with a view of Iloilo City, as it slowly turns into a metropolis. You will surely fell in love at the City of Love.
The cafe serves Filipino dishes and its unlimited buffet. It could be better if they can hire a real cook or a chef, I mean if they do have one, well the food sucks big time. Even the simplest pancake doesn’t taste good. Food presentations can be made better too. I mean for a fried fish for example, as a chef myself, I know how to cook it crispy without having to look gross.

    HELIPAD:

Well well well, I didn’t really know that they have. I could have had a grand entrance. Hehe, Investors like the Japanese investors (for example) fly in and out of City through helicopters. Yup, expect them to be checking in with you at the hotel too.

I hope the pictures will tell you why we choose to stay here longer than expected. Our stay here was unplanned and not budgeted ahead either. I got the rest that I needed so badly. Standard room rate is 3,500 per night, but I got mine for only 2,000 pesos per night, thanks, to AGODA.

Straight from Guimaras Island, we went to Garin Farm the next day. From the Iloilo port, a van picked us up and traveled straight to San Joaquin, Iloilo. From Iloilo City, it’s a 2-hour trip going to Garin Farm.

Originally Garin Farm is a one-stop shop for farmers, investors, and agriculture lovers.  It is a demonstration farm showcasing viable agricultural livelihood plant and animal culture with their corresponding product processing and zero waste management program demonstrating a harmonious co-existence of plants and animals. [Source: Explore Iloilo]

The moment you enter Garin Farm Pilgrimage Resort, you will be greeted with a vast plantation of vines. They call it the millionaire’s vine. A foul odor is normal because, once again, you are entering a farm. Chicken, cows and other animals are there happy to see you (hehe).

It will be quite a long walk going up to the cafe where the Pilgrimage and other amenities are. If you feel you can’t walk that long or an elderly is with you, you can choose to pay for a ride from the entrance to the cafe and up to the Divine Mercy Mountain for only 30 pesos per person (roundtrip).

The BAHAY KUBO is really nostalgic for me. It may look like an ordinary nipa hut, which is common to provinces here in the Philippines, but seeing all the vegetables mentioned in the song “Bahay Kubo” planted surrounding the Bahay Kubo makes me euphoric. I admit, although I know the song, I am not familiar to all the vegetables mentioned and how it look like.  Walk around the house and sing-along Bahay Kubo, hehe it was really fun.

    PILGRIMAGE

The Pilgrimage site of Garin Farm is a favorite destination for Catholics who wish to meditate and relieve Christ’s sacrifices and hardship in the way of the cross.

As you enter the gates, you will see life-size images or relics from Genesis “Creation of Man,” the birth of Christ, Christ’s crucifixion and His Divine Mercy until experiencing a piece of Heaven on Earth.

Looking at the long stairs is a bit scary, most especially for those who are not physically fit, but as you walk your way up, you won’t really feel it much most especially if you are doing the station of the cross and stop in every station. Each site will give you a time to rest for a while.

As you reach the last station, continue your way up to the meditation channel and experience a piece of Heaven on Earth.

Note: I will not post many pictures on this part, although a lot are on the Internet already. It would really be nice for you to experience it yourself. Feelings are somewhat subjective. Some people may not appreciate it as much as Catholics do. Nonetheless, it has been a favorite tourist destination as they offer adventure amenities and activities also inside the farm.

I admit I did the shortcut going up the mountain. I rode the golf cart that transports people going up and down the meditation mountain. Design for those who wanted to experience heaven without having to go through the sacrifice of going up using the stairs. I was happy but not fulfilling. I will be visiting this October again. I’ll make sure I’ll do the station of the cross next time. 🙂

Miagao Church is 15-20 minutes away from Garin Farm Pilgrimage Resort. It was just a quick stop when went there because we need to get to our next destination for late lunch. Worth the stopover.

Miagao Church is one of the oldest heritage protected churches in Iloilo Province. Built by hand with eggs as the binding agent and rocks that give that ultimate grandeur. When you visit Iloilo, other than its excellent beaches, heritage protected churches are the must visit destinations. Although this is purely Catholic culture, people from another sect visit them because of its history and architecture. Vintage and nostalgic at the same time.

Its altar is full of grandeur just like the other churches in the province. Gold fills the entire altar in yellow.
